In Pampaneira, the cultural legacy left by the Moriscos in the Alpujarra region of Granada remains intact, with its narrow alleyways, cosy squares and traditional houses.
Nestled between the mountainous slopes of the Sierra Nevada and the Mediterranean coast, the beauty and charm of Pampaneira have earned this village various awards, such as the First Provincial Prize for the Beautification of Villages (1976) and, for two consecutive years (1977 and 1978) the National Tourism Prize for the Beautification and Improvement of Spanish Villages.
Within its municipal boundaries lies the Buddhist monastery of O Sel Ling, a place dedicated to retreat and meditation.
