Cueva de Nerja, Málaga

The cave is 4,283 metres long, but only a third of it is open to visitors – specifically, the area known as the Lower Galleries. The significance of this cave lies in the fact that it contains almost every known type of natural formation.

Furthermore, it is easily accessible to visitors thanks to the spaciousness and great height of its chambers. Of all the chambers, the Cataclismo Chamber is particularly noteworthy, where visitors can see evidence of a seismic event that took place in the area 800,000 years ago.

It is also possible to view anthropomorphic cave paintings in the Sala de la Torca, and symbolic and animal depictions in the Sala de los Fantasmas. In the first chamber, the Vestíbulo, visitors can see a display case containing human remains, pottery and tools.

In the Sala del Belén, there is a burial site dating from 6,300 BC. To enjoy fabulous views of the stalactites and stalagmites in this cave, it is best to visit the viewing point located in the Sala del Colmillo del Elefante.
