Cartuja de Valldemosa
Cartuja de Valldemosa · Mallorca
Por Spain ·

It was a palace built in 1309. In 1399 it passed into the hands of the Carthusian monks and in 1835 it was privatised following Mendizábal’s confiscation.
The complex is open to visitors and features a cloister, one of the oldest parts of the present-day buildings, the Carthusians’ former pharmacy, a garden and the rooms of the Priory Cell (chapel, library, audience chamber, bedroom, etc.). These rooms preserve the historical and artistic legacy of the Carthusians.
There is also a significant collection of personal effects, manuscripts and musical scores belonging to the musician Frédéric Chopin and the writer George Sand. Chopin composed his Preludes Op. 28 here, and Sand wrote *A Winter in Mallorca*.
The tour also includes a section dedicated to the former Guasp Printing House, the collection of Archduke Luis Salvador of Austria, and a collection of paintings of the Sierra de Tramuntana and contemporary art, featuring works by Miró.
