Catedral de Santo Domingo de la Calzada, Logroño

Its origins date back to 1158, when construction began. In the 14th and 16th centuries, it underwent various alterations until it took on its present appearance. It consists of three naves with a transept, an ambulatory, a triforium and ribbed vaults.

The exterior is characterised mainly by the Romanesque apse, the Baroque tower and the ‘Mediodía’ or ‘Santo’ portal, featuring a semicircular arch, images in niches and circular oculi. The high altarpiece is crafted from alabaster and walnut and was completed in 1545.

The choir stalls are notable for their 16th-century Plateresque ornamentation. Among its chapels, the following stand out: the Chapel of the Sepulchre of Saint Dominic (with a recumbent statue); the Chapel of Saint Teresa (the pantheon of the Marquises of Ciriñuela); the Chapel of the Magdalene (one of the most lavish in the cathedral); the Chapel of the Holy Christ (featuring two altarpieces, one Renaissance and the other Baroque); and the Chapel of Saint Peter (which retains part of its Romanesque structure).

The cloister dates from the 14th century but was altered in the 16th century. The sacristy and the chapter house house important artistic treasures, such as several 15th- and 16th-century Spanish-Flemish triptychs and various pieces of gold and silverwork.
