Laguna Grande de Gredos
Laguna Grande de Gredos · Ávila
Por Spain ·

Situated in the south of Castile and León, it encompasses 28 municipalities and features a spectacular succession of lakes, cirques, gorges and cliffs, shaped by erosion over the course of various ice ages. Among the park’s highlights are the Gredos cirque and the Laguna Grande.
Both are of glacial origin and are dominated by Mount Almanzor, which, at 2,592 metres, is the highest peak in the entire Central System. Among the various walking routes available to explore this natural area, the one leading to the cirque stands out, offering views of several waterfalls on the way to the highest peaks.
Of great importance is the wide variety of plant and animal species found in this Regional Park, amongst which the Spanish ibex undoubtedly stands out.
Furthermore, in the Gredos area, visitors can enjoy sports such as cycling, mountaineering and rock climbing, and explore various towns with an interesting heritage, such as Candeleda and El Barco de Ávila, or sites such as the Roman road at Puerto del Pico.
