Catedral de Zamora
Catedral de Zamora · Zamora
Por Spain ·

The cathedral was built between 1151 and 1174 in the Romanesque style, of which it is one of the most significant examples in Spain. Various later alterations added Gothic elements (the apses and chancel) and Herrerian elements (the cloister).
It is a three-nave church with a transept and three semicircular apses. Its 16-arch double-arched drum supports the scaled dome, which is the symbol of the city of Zamora and sets it apart from other cathedrals. It has a single bell tower with a square plan.
Inside, it houses numerous works of art, such as the choir stalls, the ‘Cristo de las Injurias’ and an image of Our Lady of Majesty. On the Bishop’s Door, the two pediments feature reliefs: one depicts the Virgin and Child, and the other the apostles John and Paul.
