Monasterio de San Jerónimo de Yuste
Monasterio de San Jerónimo de Yuste · Cáceres
Por Spain ·

It was founded in the 15th century. Emperor Charles V spent his final months there. It has two cloisters, one Gothic and the other Renaissance.
The Monastery of Yuste originated as a small hermitage, which expanded in size thanks to a donation of land in the early 15th century. It is a Hieronymite monastery founded in 1408. It owes its international fame to the fact that, from 1557 onwards, Emperor Charles V spent his final months there after abdicating the throne in favour of his son, Philip II.
A small, austere palace was built for him on the southern side of the monastery. It features an interesting Gothic church, with an altarpiece by Juan de Herrera and a carved Gothic choir.
