Today, together with Buenavista and Los Silos, it forms what is known as the ‘lower island’, a beautiful place brimming with monuments and buildings of artistic interest, such as the churches of Santa Ana and Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles, the convents of San Francisco and Santo Domingo, and San Miguel Castle.

A good time to visit and explore the town is during the festival of San Roque, which has been declared a festival of national tourist interest and is celebrated with a popular pilgrimage.
