Teatro Romano de Málaga, Málaga

The Roman theatre in Málaga is situated at the foot of the Alcazaba hill in the western part of the city. It was discovered in 1951, after having lain buried for centuries. It was built in the 1st century, during the reign of Augustus. It remained in use until the 3rd century.

The Arabs reused elements of its construction, such as capitals and column shafts, for the Alcazaba, using them to support the horseshoe arches of the gates within the fortress. Its dimensions are as follows: a radius of 31 metres, a height of 16 metres and an orchestra measuring 15 metres. It features a cavea with three tiers and entrance gates to the tiers (vomitorium).
