Jardines del Turia, Valencia

The Turia Gardens were created in the late 20th century following the diversion of the river into a new artificial channel to the south of the city after the catastrophic flood of 1957.

The project, which encompassed the 120 hectares of dry riverbed that would form the new linear park, was designed by the Catalan architect Ricardo Bofill and described as “a composition that draws on the symbolic power of certain rhythms and references to the Arab garden”.

The park is divided into sections, each with its own distinct character; the initial sections feature cyclo-cross and cycling circuits, and sports facilities including an athletics track and a multi-sports ground, as well as football pitches, rugby pitches, baseball pitches and a skating rink, whilst the final sections feature more conventional landscaped areas.

Among these, the Palau Garden area stands out, home to the Palace of Music, designed by the Valencian architect José María García Paredes.
