Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza, Madrid

Among the nearly 1,000 works on display, visitors can explore the major periods and schools of Western art, such as the Renaissance, Mannerism, the Baroque, the Rococo, Romanticism and the art of the 19th and 20th centuries, right up to Pop Art.

Also included are movements not represented in state collections, such as Impressionism, Fauvism, German Expressionism and the experimental avant-garde movements of the early 20th century. Also worthy of note is the significant collection of 19th-century American paintings, which is unique amongst European museums.

Dürer, Raphael, Titian, Rubens, Rembrandt, Caravaggio, Manet, Renoir, Cézanne, Van Gogh, Gauguin, Kandinsky, Picasso, Hopper and Rothko are just some of the great masters of painting who captivate visitors.

Originally a private collection, this international collection, which now belongs to the Spanish people, offers a glimpse into the exquisite taste of its two principal founders, Baron Heinrich Thyssen-Bornemisza (1875–1947) and his son, Hans Heinrich Thyssen-Bornemisza (1921–2002).

Since 2004, the Carmen Thyssen-Bornemisza Collection has been added, comprising over 200 works on loan that complement the styles and genres already present in the Permanent Collection. Accessible, dynamic, pioneering, sustainable and rigorous in its commitment to quality, the Thyssen-Bornemisza National Museum welcomes visitors of all ages, and young people in particular.

Temporary exhibitions, educational activities, online games, courses, competitions, concerts, live music, workshops, cinema, theatre… An endless array of activities for an endless range of audiences.
