It is an 11th-century Islamic castle-palace. Remains of its fortified enclosure are still visible. The palace has a square floor plan and rounded towers, with the exception of one, known as the Torreón del Trovador, which has a rectangular floor plan.
The rooms are arranged around an open-air courtyard. Its coffered ceilings and plasterwork decoration are among its greatest attractions. It currently serves as the seat of the Aragonese Parliament.
