The César Manrique Foundation is situated in the artist’s home and studio. It carries out important work in the fields of the visual arts, the environment and culture, and its main objectives include the conservation, study and dissemination of Manrique’s work, as well as the promotion of artistic activity that fosters respect for the natural environment.
The house extends across a lava flow and is built on top of five large natural volcanic bubbles. The upper floor is inspired by the traditional architecture of Lanzarote and incorporates functional elements of modern design, such as large windows.
Furthermore, in the central jameo, visitors can explore a spacious relaxation area with a swimming pool, dining room, oven, barbecue and more, set amongst lush vegetation. The final space, near the exit, consists of the painter’s former studio.
