Por Spain ·

It was founded by Ramón Berenguer IV, Count of Barcelona, who ceded it to the Cistercian Order. The kings of Aragon chose it as their royal mausoleum, and it became one of the most prominent cultural centres of the period, with its library taking on particular significance.
It is a monumental complex of great value. Its most significant buildings date from the 13th to the 15th centuries. It forms part of the Cistercian Route, alongside the Monastery of Santes Creus, and has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
