This unique food market is situated in the heart of the Old Town, next to the Bilbao Estuary. It boasts an eclectic and monumental style, with a distinctly functional character.
The interior structure is column-free; the spaces are completely open-plan, and lighting plays a particularly important role. The overhead light streaming in through the roof passes through the floors, which are made of translucent material, creating a natural brightness throughout the building.
On the outside, the Mercado de la Ribera features a variety of Art Deco ornamentation, combining stained-glass windows, latticework, floral motifs and other decorative elements. And it stands out not only for its beautiful stained-glass windows, but also for its excellent selection of fish and seafood.
