Museo Sorolla
Museo Sorolla · Madrid
Por Spain ·

This museum helps visitors to understand Joaquín Sorolla’s artistic development. Visitors are introduced to the artist’s various stylistic and thematic periods, such as his socially critical paintings, family portraits, genre paintings and self-portraits.
The painter’s ‘colourist’ period is characterised primarily by his Impressionist landscapes. Also on display are other collections of sculpture, ceramics, jewellery, early photography and a significant archive of his private correspondence.
Of particular note are works by other artists such as Benlliure, Rodin and Bloy. On 15 October 2026, the museum’s extension will open to the public; this new space, designed by Nieto Sobejano Arquitectos, has a separate entrance on Calle Zurbano and includes exhibition galleries and an auditorium.
The house-museum is temporarily closed for renovation, as restoration work and improvements to accessibility are still underway.
