Basílica de Nuestra Señora del Pilar
Basílica de Nuestra Señora del Pilar · Zaragoza
Por Spain ·

It is a jewel of Baroque art. It was built between the 17th and 18th centuries. Inside, the highlight is the Holy Chapel, designed by Ventura Rodríguez, which houses the image of the Virgin of El Pilar.
Also of interest are the High Altarpiece, carved from alabaster, and the Renaissance choir. Alongside the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, the Basilica del Pilar is one of Spain’s most important spiritual destinations.
It is also a first-rate artistic centre housing works of great value from different periods. Of particular note are the frescoes painted by Goya in the choir loft and the ‘Regina Martyrum’ dome.
