Plaza Mayor de Salamanca
Plaza Mayor de Salamanca · Salamanca
Por Spain ·

It is one of the most beautiful squares in Spain. It was built in the Baroque style to a design by Alberto Churriguera. On the north side stands the Town Hall, also in the Baroque style, with five granite arches and a bell gable flanked by four allegorical figures.
Its decoration features a number of medallions, including those of Charles I, Alfonso XI, Ferdinand VI, Cervantes and Saint Teresa. The façades of the buildings are arranged over three storeys, supported by a series of semicircular arches and topped by a balustrade. It is currently one of the liveliest and busiest spots in Salamanca.
