Mercado de San Miguel
Mercado de San Miguel · Madrid
Por Spain ·

Situated right in the heart of Madrid’s tourist district, this iconic building is a traditional market (the only one built of iron to have survived to the present day in the capital) which today exudes modernity and offers high-quality produce. It offers a wealth of possibilities: doing your daily shopping, taking part in activities and exhibitions, sampling products, strolling around, having a drink…
The Mercado de San Miguel, with its tasteful décor, features more than 20 stalls selling exquisite products and carefully selected ingredients. It aims to reflect Spain’s gastronomic diversity and to become a Centre for Culinary Culture, also hosting courses, presentations and fairs…
Furthermore, thanks to its extended opening hours, it is perfect for both daytime and evening leisure, as it also features wine bars and bars where you can sample tapas. It is classified as a Site of Cultural Interest in the ‘Monument’ category.
Its construction, under the direction of Alfonso Dubé y Díez, was completed in 1916. And its location, the Plaza de San Miguel (next to the famous Plaza Mayor), is one of the liveliest spots in Madrid.
