Nacimiento del Guadalquivir, Sierras de Cazorla, Jaén

This area has also been a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve since 1983. It comprises more than 2,000,000 hectares of landscapes of unrivalled beauty, home to species found nowhere else in the world.

It is the largest protected area in the whole of Spain. We are talking about 200,000 hectares of mountains, situated north-west of Jaén, with lush pine forests home to unique species such as the Cazorla violet, the Valverde lizard, a daffodil that boasts of being the smallest in the world, and a distinctive carnivorous plant.

Two of Spain’s ten longest rivers, the Guadalquivir and the Segura, have their source here. The park spans 23 municipalities and is home to species such as the mountain goat, red deer and wild boar, as well as mouflon, which can be observed in a semi-wild state in the ‘Collado del Almendral’ Hunting Reserve.
