Parque de María Luisa, Sevilla

It is Seville’s largest urban park, designed by the French landscape architect Forestier for the 1929 Ibero-American Exposition.

With it came the revival of a purely Hispanic style of gardening that would come to be known as ‘Neo-Sevillian’ or ‘Neo-Arabic’ and which would have a major influence on all Spanish public parks during the first third of the century.

Many of its squares, roundabouts and monuments are dedicated to figures from Spanish literature, such as the roundabouts named after Bécquer, Cervantes and the Machado brothers, amongst others. And undoubtedly one of its defining features is the extensive use of brick and tiles in its fountains, ponds and street furniture.
