It is a fortification with balustrades, comprising several lines of defence, moats, breakwaters and galleries. These were built in medieval times, given Ceuta’s status as a frontier town.
Following the Portuguese conquest, two sections of the Royal Wall and its bastions were built, featuring a navigable moat and a drawbridge. Today, the bastions of Coraza Alta, La Bandera and Los Mallorquines remain.
