Templo de Debod
Templo de Debod · Madrid
Por Spain ·

Discover the Temple of Debod, one of Madrid’s most intriguing monuments. Having stood on Egyptian soil for centuries, this structure, which dates from the 2nd century BC, is a gift from Egypt to Spain.
Plans to move this temple, built on the orders of King Adijalamani, began to take shape in 1960, when construction of the Aswan Dam commenced. It finally arrived in Madrid in 1972, where it can be admired in the Parque de la Montaña, very close to the Plaza de España.
Here you can admire one of the few architectural remains of Egyptian civilisation that are found intact far from their country of origin. This monument, surrounded by a beautiful fountain and gardens, is the oldest in the Spanish capital; it features a vestibule, several chapels and a terrace on the upper floor, whilst retaining its original interior decoration.
