Por Spain ·

The museum displays artefacts unearthed during excavations in the area of the Roman Theatre in Cartagena, which was built between the 5th and 1st centuries BC.
This museum forms part of a comprehensive project designed by the architect Rafael Moneo, which encompasses the restoration of part of the city of Cartagena and its Roman Theatre, which had been hidden for several centuries. The museum is divided into two buildings and houses archaeological artefacts accompanied by explanatory panels detailing the process of restoring the Theatre, as well as permanent and temporary exhibitions, and archive and study rooms.
The visit includes a guided tour of part of the city and the interior of the Roman Theatre itself. The Theatre, which has a capacity of 6,000 people, played an important role in ancient Roman times and is characterised by its auditorium carved out of the rock, its rich decoration and its stage, which is over 43 metres long.
