Templo Romano de Diana
Templo Romano de Diana · Badajoz
Por Spain ·

It is a large building; it must have been one of the most majestic structures in Roman Mérida. It is one of the religious buildings still standing on its original site.
It has a rectangular plan, is surrounded by columns (peripteral) and is hexastyle (with six columns at the front). It stands on a plinth. The capitals of its columns are Corinthian in style, with fluted shafts, and are constructed of granite.
It is thought that, in its day, there was a garden with a pond next to the temple. In the 16th century, a palace for the Count of Los Corbos was built using the temple’s structure as a foundation.
