Por Spain ·

Built on the highest point in the city, construction of Segovia Cathedral began in 1525, during the reign of King Charles V. It is in the Late Gothic style and was built following the fire that destroyed the old Romanesque cathedral in 1520. It has a three-nave layout, with side chapels and a semicircular chancel with an ambulatory.
The cathedral, built to the plans of Juan Gil de Hontañón, has three entrances: on its main façade is the Puerta del Perdón, entirely the work of Juan Guas; on the south façade is the Puerta de San Geroteo; and the Puerta de San Frutos. It is 105 metres long by 50 metres wide, with a height of 33 metres in the central nave.
The high altarpiece is crafted from marble, jasper and bronze. It was consecrated in 1768.
