The National Museum of Roman Art in Mérida, designed by the renowned architect Rafael Moneo, was opened in 1986. Inside, it houses artefacts from Roman civilisation – which left such a lasting mark on this city – sourced from the theatre and the Roman house, amongst other sites.
It contains funerary steles, pottery, glass, coins, sculptures, paintings and mosaics. Archaeological excavations are currently taking place in the lower part of the site.
