Catedral de Mallorca
Catedral de Mallorca · Mallorca
Por Spain ·

This building, the construction of which began during the reign of James II, comprises a three-nave plan. The Trinity Chapel is situated in the central nave, where the remains of Kings James II and James III rest.
Notable features of the façade include the Main Door and the South Door, or Mirador, which is of particular interest as it is decorated with sculptures by Guillem Sagrera. The beauty of the Mirador Door is spectacular, thanks to its ornamentation featuring geometric and plant motifs, whilst the Main Door is supported by four majestic columns.
The renovations carried out by the architect Antonio Gaudí in the early 20th century are another of this building’s attractions. So too are the works created by the artist Miquel Barceló in the Chapel of the Blessed Sacrament: his large ceramic mural, the stained-glass windows and the furnishings.
Furthermore, the Cathedral of Palma de Mallorca has a total of nine bells in its tower. Amongst them, the bell known as ‘n’Eloi’ stands out for its size: it measures 2 metres in diameter and weighs 4,517 kilos.
